Radio Controlled Sailing
Radio transmitter (Spektrum DX5e)Radio control
The Soling One Meter is controlled by a radio transmitter in the hands of the boat’s skipper. The radio transmitter has two joysticks that send signals over two separate channels to a radio receiver and two battery powered electric motors or servos in the boat. Signals from the radio transmitter are interpreted by the radio receiver on the boat and translated into instructions to change the position of the servos. One servo controls the position of both main and jib sails together (allowing the sails to be trimmed), the other the position of the rudder (allowing the boat to be steered).

Sailing
The Soling One Meter is propelled by the natural action of the wind and water on the hulls, sails and rigging. There are no engines, no motors, no propellers or other mechanical propulsion. Once the boat is set up/tuned for the conditions and launched, the skipper controls only the direction that the boat is heading and the position of the sails. The race-winning skipper is able to do this in such a way as to get their boat around a prescribed course faster than the rest of the fleet! Learning to sail the Soling One Meter takes minutes – sailing her expertly in a fleet of other boats takes much longer!
